was held in "Comidas de Santiago" in bairro do Castelo, Lisbon, which
aims to publish in a book around 50 pairings of traditional Portuguese
dishes and wines. In the jury there were journalists, wine and
restaurant professionals and several connoisseurs who were charged with
the difficult job of rating the match of the different wines with stewed
gizzards. A total of 10 wines, 2 white and 8 red, were presented for
tasting, originating from four wine regions: Douro, Bairrada, Alentejo e
Algarve.
In an historic surrounding near S. Jorge Castle, reminiscent of a
glorious past, the victorious battles or the witnessing of the glorious
return of the Portuguese discoverers who travelled the world, we now
experienced delicious moments.
The gizzards, accompanied by plain toast, were excellent, tender and
savoury, with the correct amount of seasoning. They were so tasty that
the judges' challenge was even greater as their attention was clearly
drawn to the delicious gizzards.
Amongst the wines being tasted our "Marquês dos Vales Grace Vineyard
2007" stood out, once again, in second place.
